– A. T. Still MD, DO, Osteopathy Research and Practice
The name OSTEOPATHY was given to a sophisticated medical system which is based on the following principles:
all the bodily systems function as a UNIT;
health of a human body depends on its own SELF-REGULATING, SELF-HEALING potency;
there is a significant interrelation between the STRUCTURE and FUNCTION;
The main objective of an osteopathic treatment is to restore freedom in the tissues, normalize the flow of bodily fluids, promote physiological function and thus, restore HOMEOSTASIS and BALANCE between and within the regulatory systems. Through the skilled and gentle touch an osteopath examine and treat the imbalances throughout the body.
Freedom and balance are sought in the musculoskeletal system (fascia, bones, muscle, tendons, ligaments), visceral system (cardiovascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal, metabolic, renal, reproductive and respiratory organs and glands) and neural system (cranium, vertebral colon, brain, spinal cord).
"When all of the fulcrums are synchronised there will be peace and harmony."
